A Stop in San Gimignano

Just an hour southwest of Florence sits a small town upon a hill. Walk through the gates and down the cobblestone streets. Medieval towers and stone churches surround you.  No doubt, you will feel a part of the past because San Gimignano truly is a place preserved in history.

Admittedly, there aren’t many things to do in San Gimignano. But, if you need a place to escape the hustle and bustle of Florence, San Gimignano is a welcome escape. Stop there for an afternoon. It’s a great place to walk around, and there are plenty of shops to see on the main square.

But here are the two things you can’t miss out on:

1. Gelateria Dondoli.

Supposedly, Gelateria Dondoli is the world’s best gelato. I believe it. All of the gelato had rich, bold flavors with natural ingredients. They perfected all the classic flavors and made some amazing new ones of their own. My favorite is the blackberry lavender gelato. Is it really the best in the world? You’ll have to find out for yourself.

2. The View

Not far from the main square and fabulous gelateria, is an amazing panoramic view. There are many different vantage points, but the people of San Gimignano have posted signs pointing to the very best one. You’ll never truly understand the breathtaking beauty until you witness it yourself. It’s there that you can see all of Tuscany: miles and miles of olive trees, grape vines, and rolling hills. Not even a cloudy day can spoil the view.
