For the past few months I’ve been working on a fantasy novel about Kat, a spirited peasant girl, and her quest to resurrect her younger brother Colton. Although I am nowhere near done, I’m thrilled by this novel. I’ve created a stunning world with its own legends, history, and complex cast of characters.
Ah, and there is so much heartbreak. I really do treat Kat like trash. Poor girl. She loses so much, gains so much, and then loses so much more. Along the way, she finds thoughtful, caring companions only to lose them just as she lost her brother.
Well, not in the same way. They don’t die. Not all of them anyways. Besides, lose. What do I really mean by “lose?” And when I say “them,” I don’t mean all of them. Calm down people. Okay, I’ll be honest. I’m just trying to tease you, draw a little intrigue.
Anyways, I’ve written over 200 pages so far. This will be a long, long novel. At least, I hope so. I will not be so presumptuous as to say this is the next Song of Ice and Fire, the next Harry Potter, the next Eragon, or the next insert successful fantasy series here________. But the structure will be similar, and I hope the quality will be similar as well. Wish me luck.
The character Kat reminds me of Kat from Gena Showalter’s “White Rabbit Chronicles”. A great read.
I look forward to finding out how your novel is going 🙂
